.44-40 WCF with a 3-1/2" barrel. These fine revolvers were manufactured from 1876 to 1880. This example features the bird’s head skull crusher butt, scoop flute, open top. These are often referred to as the “Pocket Army” albeit the frame is not stamped as such and may be the short barrel application from a two barrel set. The assembly number on the butt is 1172, while the number 573 is stamped on both barrel assembly and cylinder. It appears to have been cleaned of its original finish and presently is in a shiny gun metal. The hard rubber grips are near mint with no cracks. It is missing the slide screw. Function is perfect. Strong clean bore. Factory legends on frame are perfect but no visible barrel stamps. It is a single action only. Index and lock-up are fine. Would make a great cowboy action shooter or a wonderful candidate for restoration.
