.38 S&W Special with a 2" barrel. Offered is an early pre-model 36 Chief's Special introduced in 1950. It features the early flat latch. Sports the standard blued finish, 2" barrel, five shot, double action and diamond checkered walnut grips. Function is flawless. Bore is mint. Wood grips are very good and show some typical carry wear. Gun retains approximately 90% original blue with carry wear on top strap, cylinder, high edges, trigger guard. Grips straps have worn to gun metal grey. Hammer has been custom bobbed. This is an "Airweight" model as is the box. It rests in a Smith & Wesson sunburst box with proper end label, but box is numbered to another gun. These boxes have become collectible in their own right and were offered from 1954 to 1959.
