.30-06 caliber with a 24" barrel. This rifle was manufactured in 1909. Barrel is stamped "S.A. 2-11". These are sometimes referred to as Bannerman Springfields. Large numbers of surplus Springfield 1903s were purchased by Bannerman of New York and were refurbished to various degrees, depending on the condition of the rifle received, and were then sold via catalogs and to marksmanship clubs. The receiver retains approximately 90% of the vintage re-applied rust blue finish. Features the early straight bolt. The rear sight is a standard Krag sight. Front sight collar base is present and the blade has been replaced. The stock is a proper Springfield-type stock with the thin hand-grooves and a single stock bolt with the 1920s era hand guard (2"x1/2" sight groove). No visible cartouche. Has the smooth buttplate, all milled parts and proper U.S. rear barrel band. Proper forend with bayonet lug and sling swivel. The stock is in excellent condition with no cracks and a lovely dark oil finish as used by the U.S. arsenal. Comes with a vintage brass two frog leather sling. ME reading is two with strong rifling. Perfect action. These Bannerman 1903s have become a collectible variation in their own right, and this one is in excellent condition.
