Serial number 370155. Caliber is 45-70 GOVT. Barrel length is 32 5/8 inches. Standard issue, all original, 1884 trapdoor rifle. Has the 1884 rear sight. Block is stamped US Model 1884. Barrel has VP eagle head proof with P and the letter A on the top of the barrel. Lock stamped US Springfield with eagle. The cartouche on left side is visible but not readable. The script P at wrist is visible. The case colors on block have silvered out. The balance of metal finish is a smooth clean blue brown patina. US stamp on barrel bands and butt plate. Stock is in excellent condition retaining the rich patina with no cracks but the usual war dings, has a strong clean bore with some minor black powder abrasions and a perfect action. A letter issued from the Springfield research service indicates that this rifle, by serial number, was issued to Company H, of the first US Volunteer Infantry, of the 1898 Spanish American War. Data, US Archives, Record Group 94. Fine, all original, unit issue, Spanish American war trapdoor.
