.45 LC caliber with a 5-1/2" barrel. This revolver began life as a Renaldo Carr cavalry revolver as issued to the U.S. military with a standard 7-1/2" barrel and walnut grips in 1890. At the turn of the century, these revolvers were returned to the arsenals, where they were taken, stripped down, salvageable parts removed, barrels cut down to 5-1/2" and were then reassembled using various parts from other turned-in revolvers and were subsequently reissued to American troops, most notably, during the Philippine insurrection. This is an excellent example of just such a revolver. The trigger guard is stamped "33416" and back strap is stamped "31770". Barrel has a "P" proof stamp. Cylinder has no external stamp except for the "R.A.C." inspector. Has the old style screw-in frame with donut ejector. All metal surfaces are a smooth grey patina with strong barrel legend. Walnut grips are very good having been refinished, with no cartouche. Front sight has been taken down a bit. Metal surfaces are basically a soft grey patina. Strong clean bore and perfect action. Fine overall as altered by the United States government.
