.44 caliber with a 20" barrel. Scarce first year of production Winchester model 1892 standard Saddle Ring Carbine in the popular .44-40 caliber that bears British proof marks on the left side of the barrel. Standard features include 20” barrel, full magazine, blued finish, walnut stock, carbine butt, post front sight and folding carbine ladder rear sight. Original saddle ring stud, but ring is crude replacement. All metal surfaces are dark chocolate brown patina with a few scattered areas of light abrasion. The original walnut stocks are very good, not cracked, but the bottom of forearm is missing a chunk of wood at frame and some denting/chipping at rear barrel band. Butt stock has two chips at wrist at bottom front tang. Fine working order. Strong rifling but dulled with some usual black powder erosion.
