.36 bore with a 6-1/8" barrel. Eugene Gabriel Lefaucheux has been called the Samuel Colt of France. By 1865 the company could turn out as many as 180 finished revolvers per day. In theory, as many as 40,000 arms. They utilized the side loading, bored through cylinder double action with a special self contained pinfire cartridge. This was a very popular revolver with the Confederacy during the Civil War as many were ferried into the South via the Blockade Runners. This example is fairly typical of the quality workmanship of the French factory during that time period. The frame and cylinder are factory engraved. This model sports a pair of vintage ivory grips with two chips on the right panel and lanyard loop. All metal surfaces are basically a dull grey patina. The gun is solid and the cylinder rotates and locks up perfectly. The bore exhibits sharp rifling with some minor residue. An extremely early and handsome Lefaucheux that would be the equivalent of a Navy model size.
