Has a .69 bore. Barrel is 22 inches. This short carbine length rifle is a period conversion of the standard model 1842 manufactured at Harper's Ferry. Very typical conversion as seen in use by the Confederate Calvary. The lock is stamped Harpers Ferry 1850 with the US Eagle. Barrel has been cut to a handy 22 inches and a front sight dove tail. It retains only one barrel band with swivel. Has an attached under rib with oak rod and homemade thimble. Butt plate is stamped US. Has an extended hammer spur. Walnut stocks are very good but there is some chipping aft of the barrel band. Metal is basically a dull gun metal gray with age patina. This would have been a very handy Calvary large bore carbine used during the Civil War.
