Type one. Has an 8-1/2" barrel, .52 bore. These were manufactured from 1836-1844. Features the swivel type steel ramrod with button head, iron mounts, lock is stamped A. Waters, Milbury MS. 1837, barrel is stamped U.S. Ja P, left side plate is stamped X, there are two cartouche in the oval on left side, both are visible but not readable. All iron hardware with the exception of the barrel. Lock and hammer are a gun metal gray patina. All other hardware has been nickel plated and retains a majority of that nickel finish. The lock has been changed from flintlock to percussion. The original stocks are excellent with a toe repair at butt and a fine line closed crack on handle near trigger. All legends are sharp. the plating appears to have been done long ago, may have been issued for Sea Service. Fine bore and action.
