This early powder horn measures 7" in length and 2-3/8" at top. The wood cap is attached with steel brads and has a hand-carved wood plug. It is carved with a map with the following noted locations: Fort Hunter, Mohok Flatt, Tribes Mt. Other inscriptions include German (Flatts), Six Nations, Nose, Trail, as well as etchings of buildings, a North arrow, and the name 'William Johnson'(?). This is a fairly detailed map of Fort Hunter, New York, established in the 18th century. There is a clear drawing of the Mohawk River where it meets the Schoharie Creek. Beautiful patina. All original. This is the type of horn that would have been used as a map at the time of the French and Indian, as well as the Revolutionary Wars. Two initials carved on top cap.
Item Dimensions: 7'' L.
