Caliber is .38 S&W, barrel length is 3-1/4". This revolver is referred to as the double action Fourth Model. Manufactured in 1895-1905. The basic revolver is a top break, five shot, nickel finish, double action with black S&W gutta percha grips. The gun retains approximately 60% original factory nickel with sharp legends and typical age freckling, age spotting and minor finish bubbling. Original grips show wear and excellent condition. Action is perfect, strong bore. What makes this set interesting is that the back strap has the scarce Cleveland Police Department engraved on back strap with ID number 307. According to the standard catalog of Smith & Wesson approximately 300 third and fourth models were marked for the Cleveland Police. In addition to the police revolver there are numerous items from the era to include a photograph of a Cleveland policeman dated July 4, 1913 listed as Harrison Taylor Cleveland Police. He is pictured in uniform. Included is an original Cleveland police badge number 307 as well as a hat page number 307 which corresponds with the revolver and the same design of badges can be seen in photograph, but the number is not readable. It also comes with an original unmarked holster, a Cleveland police belt buckle, a nightstick holder as well as the nightstick and an original two piece box Remington UMC ammunition. The entire contents are housed in a period wooden case. A very interesting and historical turn on the century collection.
