.50-70 cal, barrel length 36". Approximately 10,000 of these rifles manufactured between 1871-1872 for the US government. Standard features include: case hardened frame, all other metal left in the white, with walnut stocks, two barrel bands, sling swivels, cleaning rod, military sights, and a carbine butt plate. Right side of frame has the eagle and is stamped "US Springfield 1872". Left side of frame is stamped "Model 1871". Remington patent stamped on tang. Walnut stocks are in excellent condition and still have raised grain but the right side does have some abrasions, unit numbers stamped on fore-end, with no cracks and a visible ESA cartouche in oval on left side. The barrel and bands are near mint with usual age toning that you look for and no pitting of any kind. Strong case colors on the frame. Far above average Remington 1871.
