Barrel length 42", .69 percussion. This is a Type 2, it featured brown finish on all iron parts except lock. sling swivel moved to bow of trigger, trigger guard riveted to plate. This rifle was converted in the 1830's from flintlock to percussion. Lock is stamped "Springfield 1829" with US eagle. Top of barrel is dated 1829 along with "X,E,25". Left side of barrel has V proof with eagle head and P touchmark. Left side plate is stamped "S". Two cartouche stamps on left side are visible but not readable. Right side of stock had previous owners initials carved (3) in a script style. All metal surfaces are an aged patina having never been cleaned. Clean, shiny bore with perfect action. A lovely, completely untouched original as-converted 1816 musket. Seldom do they survive without being messed with or cleaned.
