Barrel length 42", .72 bore smooth. Flintlock ignition, lock plate is stamped "Lane & Read Boston". Top of the barrel is stamped "US". It has the "AH" inspector stamp with the proof "P" touchmark. Tang is dated 1831. Wrist has a brass thumb plate. It has a simple brass butt plate with 3" upper tang. Simple brass trigger guard with single trigger. The metal tulip ramrod is secured by 3 brass thimbles. Barrel is pinned rather than wedged. It has a brass nose-cap. Simple front sight with no rear. It has a very good bore. All metal is a rich, chocolate brown patina. Working condition. Brass has never been cleaned. Walnut stock is excellent with no cracks. Lane and Read manufactured these muskets much in the style of the British Brown Bess for use by the Massachusetts State Militia. This is an outstanding condition musket and can be considered a secondary US Martial.
