Barrel length 26", .38-40 caliber. Manufactured 1887. Offered is an early Colt Open Top slide action, medium frame rifle, chambered for the .38 cartridge, with full round barrel and full magazine, with blued finish, checkered walnut fore-end and walnut stock and rifle butt plate. Rifle has standard sporting sights fore and aft. Barrel and magazine are a smooth mix of brown grey blue patina. With razor sharp barrel legends. The frame is likewise a blue brown grey patina with traces of color on hammer. Walnut fore-end is excellent with sharp checkering. The butt stock is in excellent condition , proud to metal with no cracks. A couple of dents, and a small 1/8" chip on left side. Has a strong, clean bore and a perfect action. Lovely, honest, all original, early Lightning.
