.357 magnum with a 4" barrel. Standard features include blued finish, double action, six shot and checkered walnut grips. The serial number on this revolver places it within the range of the special order of 3,000 guns manufactured in 1980 for the New York State police department that were never delivered. They are built on the square butt N frame with three screws, pinned and recessed with the non-glare top strap. The gun remains in excellent condition with a light drag line, one light spot on the cylinder, some high edge muzzle wear and some light freckling to back strap. There is a little white paint to the front sight that could easily be removed. Checkered walnut grips are numbered 225729 and 215711 and there is a chip at the base of the right panel. The large N frame revolvers have always been one of the most highly coveted of all Smith & Wesson firearms, and the short production big bores should prove to be a good investment. This one has just enough use that shooting it would not diminish it's collectible value.
