This is an extremely unusual type of mitt in that it is a lace back with a cut-out for the thumb, all leather. It is maker stamped at base "THOS... PHILA PA" in an oval. We have searched dozens of vintage catalogs and cannot determine the maker, nor can we find an exact match to this style early fingerless or palm glove. It came from a consigner as found in the back pocket of an early Pennsylvania town team uniform, pictures of which accompany the glove. The uniform appears to be early 20th century with trimmed 3/4 length sleeves, and four button pullover placket, the town Schoeneck with a star on left sleeve and an early small bill soft baseball cap. Full finger gloves were in full use at the time of this uniform, but the glove could have been from earlier, we have no way to determine, but it is an interesting unusual mitt of which no other known example has ever surfaced.

Item Dimensions: 5-1/2'' L.
EARLY FINGERLESS BASEBALL MITT.
