Front tang has a Maltese cross eight-point star and the back tang reads "Joseph Rodgers & Sons Sheffield". Face of blade is stamped "1880" with a banner with some illegible writing. Clip point blade measures 8-1/8" with an overall length of 14-1/2". Horse head pommel, mounts, and guard are done in nickel silver. Handle is hand scrimshawed ivory with the inscription "To Robert Fergason. Barque Kathleen.". Handle has noticeable cracks on both sides. Knife is stored in frame with paper provenance on the whaling ship The Bark Kathleen. No sheath. Circa 1880s.
