Barrel length 41-7/8", .69 caliber smooth bore flintlock. These muskets were manufactured from 1812-1821. The lock is stamped "Virginia Manufactory" with "Richmond 1818" at rear of plate. 60,000 of these flintlock muskets were recorded at the Richmond Arsenal inventory at the beginning of the Civil War. Many were converted to percussion. This one remains in its original flintlock configuration. It is considered the Late Style (1818-1821). Approximately 14,000 were made and features the brass flash pan. Standard features include: three barrel bands finished in the white with walnut stock, barrel bears no markings, walnut stock is very good but does have a small chip at back of lock plate and a 3-1/4" crack on left side forward of front sideplate screw. It has sling swivels attached at trigger guard and middle band. It has a metal tulip ramrod. Metal has a brown freckled appearance over silver. No stamps on the wood. There are dents on both sides of stock. It has a very good smooth bore. A scarce and desirable rifle given its Confederate history.
