5-1/2" barrel in .455 Eley caliber. Beginning in 1904, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police chose the sturdy and robust Colt New Service double action revolver as one of their primary service weapons. Standard features on this revolver include the blued finish, six shot, double action, with Colt black gutta percha grips. The backstrap is stamped "R.N.W.M.P. 990", which stands for "Royal North West Mounted Police". Serial No. 61445 was one of 100 guns shipped to Thoms Birkett & Son in Ottawa and August 25th, 1914. This was the last of 100 guns in a total of 650 guns shipped in 1913-14. It is listed by serial number in the book on Royal Canadian Mounted Police weapons. The barrel finish is basically a brown patina, while the frame and cylinder retain 50-60% of the brilliant high polish blue finish, with the balance turning patina. Grip straps are a brown patina. There is a small dent at the bottom of the trigger guard. Grips are excellent. Has a lanyard ring. Butt is stamped "M.P.". Indexes perfectly. Strong bore. Sharp legends. Fine early Colt New Service shipped just prior to the first World War.
