Caliber 12 bore, Barrel length 20”. Factory research indicates the serial number was applied on March 28, 1918. Ventilated hand guard is a six row, WWI correct with March 1918 patent date. The slide bar has the Model 1897 stamp. Barrel is stamped “CYL” for cylinder and the “PW”. Aside from the hand guard, all other metal surfaces have been re-parkerized in a dull grey/black. Neither the frame nor the barrel have the US nor ordinance bomb. Walnut stocks are correct for the period. Round for-end has 18 grooves. Pistol grip stock does not have the flutes, has the proper Winchester gutta -percha butt plate and sling swivels. Retains 70% of the re-parkerized finish. Walnut stocks are very good to excellent. Right side is stamped “SPP128”. It is obvious this gun was built as an original riot gun with the 1918 hand guard and bayonet assembly added. Was parkerized and issue to a police department. Interesting early Model 97 riot gun.
