Caliber .582 percussion, Barrel length 40''. The Model 1855 U.S. Rifle Musket manufactured at the Harper's Ferry Armory 1857 - 1861 was one of the stable arms of the Civil War and the first marshal arm that fired the 1851 mini ball. 12,158 were manufactured at Harper's Ferry or around 20% of the total production. This rifle also features the Mayard taped primer system. Stamped with the American eagle. The lock is dated 1860. This example has the iron nose cap but no patch box. Has three barrel bands, swing swivels, finished in the white with the original ram rod. Walnut stock has a visible cartouche but is not legible. All legends are sharp as new, has the 3 leaf rear sight. Stock is in excellent condition. Fine working condition with a strong clean bore. This is an extremely nice example of a very scarce Civil War rifle.
