Caliber .38 special, Barrel length is 2”. Arguably one of the rarest Colt revolvers of the 20th century are the specially modified so called “Fitz” specials. "Fitz Special", or "Fitz Colt" is a snubnosed revolver modified for concealed carry. The concept was pioneered by John Henry Fitzgerald (also known as J.H. Fitzgerald, J. Henry Fitzgerald, and "Fitz"), an employee of Colt Firearms from 1918 to 1944. Fitzgerald was a well known and respected competition pistol shooter of the 1920s and 30s and a theorist and innovator of combat pistol shooting tactics. He wrote a book entitled,Shooting in 1930, on the topics of pistol shooting techniques and tactics. The Colt Factory letter on this revolver verifies the following; Serial number 412557 Caliber; .38/C Barrel length; 2” Finish; Blue Stocks; Not listed (silver medallion checkered walnut) Special Features; cutaway configuration Shipped to: Em Roe Sporting Goods Company, Indianapolis Date of shipment; March 12, 1934 Guns in shipment; one In addition to being a rare factory verified Fitz special, this gun comes in its excellent all original condition box that is numbered on bottom along with factory order number on bottom. Both written in pencil. It has the proper end label which specifies wood and blue. Included is its original cleaning brush, special instructions, shooting suggestions and the original test target numbered to gun. As to condition, there is a hint of muzzle wear, some light edge cylinder wear and some light frame high edge wear. Gun remains in near mint condition. Approximately 97% original blue. The cutaway refers to the trigger guard, the forward portion having been removed and the hammer which has been bobbed and polished. Otherwise, standard six shot double action, round butt. An incredible possibly once in a life time find.
