Caliber .58 percussion, Barrel Length 40’’. Produced in 1863/1864 the Trenton Contract was held by J.T. Hodge and A.M. Burton at the Trenton and Locomotive Machine company in Trenton NJ where they manufactured 11,495 Springfield type muskets for use by the Union Army during the height of the great conflict. For all intents and purpose, it is basically a Springfield. Features the three U.S. stamped barrel bands, two solid and one split and the blued two leaf site. Lock is dated 1864 with the American Eagle and is stamped U.S. Trenton. Complete with sling swivels. All metal is in the white. The walnut stock has been cleaned and refinished. No cartouche visible. The left side of the barrel is stamped N.J. which would indicate this rifle was issued to the NJ Militia. It is in fine working order with a strong clean, near mint bore. Is accompanied by the original ram rod and bayonet.
