Caliber .38 special, Barrel length 2ā€. In 1970 ,at the height of the Vietnam war, Colt produced a very small run of revolvers for the US government. They are easily recognized by the US stamp on the base of the back strap and proof ā€œPā€ above the forward left trigger guard. Very few of these have made it to the market, the majority are still in government warehouses. Standard features: six shot, double action, blued finish, fixed sight, silver medallion checkered walnut grips. Most of these saw hard use. This one is in excellent condition. Retains approximately 90% of the original finish with minor age spotting and some light salt and peppering to the finish, visible under magnification. Fine bore and action. Very good silver medallion checkered walnut grips. Very scarce and seldom seen, US marked Colt Detective. According to the Colt factory letter, this gun was one of 1,000 shipped to the United States Government to commanding officer at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg Pennsylvania September 21, 1970.
