Caliber. 270 Weatherby, Barrel length 25". The Weatherby factory letter that accompanies this rifle is dated January 19, 1969. It states as follows: "Dear Rush, It was very nice to hear from you. We have cleaned and inspected your rifle that you sent us. We have determined that your rifle with Serial #P15047 was built in 1966 by JP Sauer and the custom work was completed by Weatherby during the same year. The stock was built by Richards Microfit and consists of Myrtlewood with inlays and no checkering. The rifle is chambered in 270 Weatherby magnum. Sincerely, Roy Weatherby." The accompanying letter verifies all of the facts concerning this exquisite custom Weatherby rifle. When trying to describe this rifle only one word need be said, "incredible." This example must be one of, if not the, most ornate Weatherby rifle ever produced. The Myrtlewood stock has contrasting forend tip and grip cap with intricate inlay at base of forearm. The floor - plate and trigger guard exhibit complete coverage, fine hand chiseled engraving with gold wire leaf and solid gold inlays of wild game. The receiver is also completely engraved with gold inlay leaves and vine. The bolt is engraved in similar pattern as are the Buhler rings and mounts. All of which have the same pattern of gold inlay. The barrel has been engraved in gold inlay, extending 10" from breech with same technique used at last one inch of muzzle. Rifle was built sans any sights. Aside from a couple of storage impressions on stock, the rifle remains in as new condition inside and out. It has a Pachmayr rubber recoil pad. Comes with a carry sling but rifle has no provisions for a sling. Rifle is housed in a custom leather carry case. The stock profile is typical Weatherby with the rakish comb with the contrasting wood inlay on the right side of stock. If one was to ponder the eternal question of why someone would take such an exquisite rifle as this into the field, the answer would be, "because he can". If your desire has always been to own the finest Deluxe Custom Weatherby ever built, this would have to be it.
