Caliber .50 percussion, Barrel length is 22-1/4”. The Gallager Carbine was manufactured by Richardson and Overman. This carbine has the rifled bore in 50 caliber. According to Flayderman, 200 Gallagers were converted to 50 cal in the 1870’s. The Gallager carbine saw extensive service in the Civil War. This is a standard model with the Richardson and Overman stamp. An unusual carbine that was manufactured without a for-end. Has walnut stock with patch box, percussion nipple, under lever, military two leaf folding site with bar and saddle ring on left side. No visual cartouche. Barrel and frame are a pleasing mix of blue and brown with some fire blue remaining on tang. Side plate is brown patina with nice traces of fire blue on hammer. Strong clean rifle bore. Nice original Gallager breech loading percussion carbine. The walnut stocks are normal with usual dings and abrasions.
