Caliber 20 bore, Barrel length 30”. Offered is an exceedingly rare, French side by side, double hammer, double barrel, double trigger smooth bore. Manufactured by Pirmet of Paris, circa 1779-1818. An elaborate and expensive weapon at time of manufacture, it features: gold mounted breech with double touch marks, gold mounted decorative front sight border and muzzle lines. Scooped rib is engraved “Pirmet A Paris”. Double hammer and both side plates are stamped identical to barrel. One piece checkered walnut stock is finely checkered. Three decorative trumpets retains oak cleaning rod with ivory tip. Sling swivels. Trigger guard is extremely wide with a very interesting BAS relief decoration that resembles an umbrella. Has what appears to be a German silver butt plate with scalloped protection on sides, top and bottom. Barrels and locks are a smooth gun metal grey patina. Stock is in excellent condition with a minor 1-1/2” crack left side of for-end at wedge. It is rare to find any double hammer flintlock shotgun let alone a grade of shotgun only available to royalty and persons of extreme wealth.
