Caliber .40-82 W.C.F., Barrel length 30". Factory research on the serial number states that this rifle was shipped on March 18, 1891. It is listed as a rifle, 40-82, octagon barrel length 30", fancy pistol grip stock, trigger plain (has a line drawn through it set). This is a very interesting rifle as the top of the barrel flat is stamped "Browning Bros Co Ogden UT". The rear sight is the first of this type we have seen and is definitely period to the rifle. The trigger is not a set trigger. The pistol grip has the defining line but was never checkered. Standard features include: full octagon barrel, full magazine, walnut stock, rifle butt. Lower marked tang. Top tang is stamped "Model 1886". Has the pre 60,000 barrel stamp correct for this rifle. The barrel and tube retain approximately 90% of the original factory blue finish with razor sharp edges and legends. Case colors on frame and lever has faded except for hidden areas. Basically grey with age freckling. Stocks are very good, proud to metal, with usual minor bumps and bruised. There is a scrape at pistol grip left side and the ebony inset has been replaced and wood is a little shy at heel of butt plate. Action is fine with a strong rifle bore. as to rear sight, can not find an example in the Winchester book. Very unusual special order extra length early Model 1886, shipped to famous Browning Bros location.
