Offered may be a once in a lifetime find. It is a full sealed wooden crate of 1,000 .45 Gov’t cartridges for the Trapdoor Springfield. The crate has never been opened, but a piece of front top board has been broken off exposing the front five boxes of cartridges. There is a total of 50 boxes within this crate, which would leave 45 boxes that have never seen the light of day. They are the old manila cardboard two piece box with the red labels. Solid lead bullets. Mint untouched individual boxes of .45-70 cartridge sell for up to $50 a piece, but this item is far more rare leaving as-is, as you can display it showing the exposed boxes. The box lists these cartridges as smokeless powder, one must assume that these were made at the turn of the last century.
