Caliber .54 cal percussion, Barrel length 21’’. The 5th model Burnside carbine was manufactured from 1863 to 1865. It was a very popular breech loading single shot percussion carbine used widely used during the Civil War. All matching numbers. Features a single barrel band and two leaf flip up rear sight. Proof “P” on barrel . Right side plate stamped “Burnside Rifle Co. Providence R.I”. All metal is a gun metal grey patina with age spotting. Government inspector stamps found on various parts. Saddle ring bar and ring. Walnut stocks are very good, slightly shy to metal, having been re-freshened up at one time. There is a visible cartouche on the left side but is not readable. Small 1/2” area of wood missing at for-end screw. Original swing swivels. Fine action and strong clean rifle bore.
