Cal .50-70 government, Barrel length 29-5/8”. Lock is stamped “US Springfield” dated 1864. Includes: 1868 rear sight, two barrel bands stamped “U”, lock is stamped “1869 US” with Eagle head, “1565” on left side of barrel and frame, ESA cartouche in oval on left side, readable but faint, small “30” painted on left side (unit), trigger guard does not have provision for a sling swivel (proper) but front barrel band is a replacement with a sling swivel. Wood is very good, shy at tang with as small repair on right side front plate. Repair crack on left side wrist. Strong bore with black powder abrasions. Metal is a grey patina with brown age freckling. Action fine. These rifles were built using the Allen conversion system with new and surplus Civil War parts.
