The bowl itself is stamped "Sterling 868 Reproduction of Paul Revere bowl by Manchester". It is inscribed "337th Fall Field Day Tour of Duty Moscow, Copenhagen, Dublin. Honorable Walter J. Stoessel Jr., Ambassador to the U.S.S.R.". It has the Massachusetts 1638 seal. Stoessel was the ambassador to the Soviet Union between 1974 and 1976. Appointed in 1982 by President Reagan as Deputy Secretary of State. He died in Washington as a result of radiation poisoning in Moscow, which lead to cancer. The controversy surrounding his death and his poisoning in Russia is the stuff movies are made from. Complete story of these events is readily available. The bowl itself is dent free, tarnished, and needs a good cleaning.
