Henry Beckwith manufactured this smooth bore, double hammer, behemoth at his 58 Skinner St, London shop between 1863-1868. It is a 4 bore, not rifled, double gun with 20” barrels and wind drift front and rear sights. The top of the 3/4” flat center is stamped “Henry Beckwith London”. It is a percussion. Features a one piece walnut stock, checkered at wrist and for-end. Frame and side plates, as well as hammers, are engraved. Features double triggers and a smooth steel shotgun butt plate. Integral mounted front sling swivel and butt swivel. Stock is very good with no cracks with 1871 carved on right side. For-end checkering is worn and is missing nose cap. Metal is rich dark chocolate patina. Very good clean bores. Missing the front wedge escutcheons. Fine early hand held cannon.
