Caliber .45 long Colt, Barrel length 5-1/2”. The frame is an 1883 D.F.C. (David F. Clark) inspected Calvary frame. As most collectors know the U.S. Government recalled hundreds of standard Calvary Revolvers at the turn of the 20th century, disassembled them, cut the barrels from 7-1/2” to 5-1/2” and then re-assembled the revolvers using serviceable parts from various Calvary models. The frame has the 3-line barrel address and is stamped “U.S”. The bottom of the barrel has the proof “P” has the donut head ejector. Cylinder number is 737. with proof “P” and D.F.C. stamp. Trigger guard is number 32314. Back strap numbers not visible but has “K” inspector mark. The one piece varnished walnut grips have visible cartouche on left side but is not readable, and grips are slightly shy to metal. As to finish, gun is basically a gray brown smooth patina. Has four perfect Colt clicks, and locks up tight. Strong clean near mint bore. An extremely fine artillery model, these revolvers have great historical significance as they were used during the Indian Wars and subsequently re-issued during all the conflicts the U.S. was involved in from 1900-1911.
