Caliber .58 bore, Barrel length 33 1/16”. Offered is a standard Type 2 U.S. Model 1855 rifle manufactured at the Harper’s Ferry Armory. This is a two barrel band model with U.S. stamp. Barrel has a side mounted bayonet lug, original ram rod and sling swivels. Model 1858 blued rear sight. All other metal finished in the white. Has the Maynard primer system with the American eagle stamp. Lock is dated 1859. Front of lock is stamped “U.S. Harper’s Ferry”. Left side of barrel has the “V.P.” proof. The cartouche is visible on left side of stock but not readable. Walnut stock is in excellent condition with normal ware. Also a patch repair 1 1/2’’ - 1 3/4’’. Has the patch box. Butt plate is stamped U.S. and a unit marking. Metal has been lightly cleaned. Total of 3,122 manufactured between 1859 -1861. There is a 2’’ crack on the left side for-end. With some minor pitting on the lock plate that partially obliterated “Harper’s Ferry”. Fine action. Strong clean rifle bore. The type 2 model 1855 Harper’s Ferry is hard to find.
