Caliber .43 Spanish, Barrel length 20”. Remington advertised the breech loading carbine from the 1870’s through the 1890’s. The No. 1 carbine saw use during that time in numerous countries as well as the US Navy. This is a US manufactured catalog carbine. Only military mark is a “U” on the barrel band. Has the 1874 patent date on tang. Features saddle ring bar and ring, standard Remington military folding sight, no for-end proof marks, metal is a smooth brown patina, walnut stocks are excellent, proud to metal, never refinished. Perfect action, strong near mint bore. Appears as if this carbine was factory tinned or plated at one time which was typical for sea service. Extremely clean, all original, big bore carbine.
