Caliber .36 (possible .38-55), Barrel length 30". This ornate single shot target rifle was awarded to the winner of a rifle contest to a member of the 15th infantry regiment and presented to him in 1894, all engraved on the right side of the butt plate. The rifle is manufactured in Germany. Top of barrel is silver inlay "G. Stirgplp Jun. Dhuurhp..." Has a full octagon barrel with no provision for a rear sight, front sight slot is empty. Each barrel flats are stamped "Stahl & Ouss". There is platinum and engraving inlays on top of barrel flat. Action is a martini type falling block, beautifully engraved with scroll and floral motif with traces of original case colors. The lever, bottom of receiver and both tangs are engraved in similar fashion, Rear tang target sight is a machining marvel. The Schuetzen style checkered walnut stock is beautifully checkered and carved with large antlered game on left side. The heavy Swiss butt plate is engraved and retains generous amounts of case color. Sling swivels, double set triggers, wood stocks are in excellent condition with no cracks. Near mint bore and action. Outstanding presentation/award rifle in fabulous condition.
