This pistol has an 8 - 1/2” barrel, caliber.54 smooth bore percussion. Pistol was made by Henry Aston of Middletown, CT dated 1852. Last year production. Has swivel type steel ramrod with button shaped head. Has single brass barrel band, brass back strap and pommel, brass trigger guard. Lock is stamped “MIDDtn Conn. 1852” and is marked “U.S. H. Aston. & Co.”. Rear tang is dated 1852, left side of barrel is stamped “U.S.” and “W.N. P.”. Backstrap has a small “H” inspectors stamp, left side of stock has two perfect cartouche stamps, “WAJ’ & “WN”. Stock is excellent. Left brass side plate is stamped “N” twice. Trigger guard is stamped “H”. All metal is a soft brown patina. Original walnut stocks are excellent with no cracks or chips. Action fine, strong clean bore. Approx. 6,000 of these were manufactured for the U.S. military in 1851 and 1852. Nice clean, all original example of a Pre - Civil War Martial pistol.
