Cal .58 percussion, Barrel length 40”. This musket was manufactured in 1864 and is basically a private contract copy of the 1861 Springfield musket. All metal in the white. 3 barrel bands, two leaf folding sight, eagle VP proof on left side of barrel. US stamped on butt plate, D stamped on tang, percussion, walnut stock. The barrel finish exhibits overall pitting with a salt and pepper finish, lock is brown patina, pitting on butt plate and trigger guard, good condition walnut stock. These were sold to state militias under private contract. Wood has numerous dings, missing front sling swivel.
