38 - 7/8" barrel. Caliber is .65 bore. This Tower musket has the 1863 date on lock with British crown. Left side of barrel has English proofs. It is a 3 band smooth bore. Brass patch box has been added. Rifle has brass trigger guard and butt plate, trigger guard has a crack at forward rear tang screw. Stock has military inspector stamps on belly. Bottom of butt has old stamp inscription that says "Bentley & ?". Wood is very good with usual minor dings, no cracks. Top of comb is carved. Metal is brown patina with corrosion at breech. Working condition. No provision for rear sight. These rifles were widely used by The Confederacy during the Civil War and hundreds were shipped South through the blockades during this period.
