32-5/8” barrel in caliber .45-70. This is an excellent standard Model 1884 with the ramrod bayonet, front sight with hood, 1884 rear sight marked “R” for rifle. Metal finish is a pleasing mix of blue and soft brown patina. Left side of barrel has the “VP” eagle head proof. Block is stamped “U.S. Model 1884”, case colors have greyed out. Lock is stamped “U.S. Springfield” with eagle. One piece walnut stock is excellent to near mint with a razor sharp S.W.P. 1891 cartouche (Samuel Porter). Butt plate is stamped “U.S.”. Side plate has approximately 40% finish. Action is perfect. Very good strong bore with light abrasion. Comes with a period leather sling with single frog.
