40” barrel in .58 caliber percussion. This contract musket is basically a U.S. Model 1861 that was manufactured by J.T. Hodge and A.M. Burton at the Trenton Locomotive & Machine Co. in 1863-64. Lock is dated 1864 with U.S. eagle stamped “Trenton”. The breech of barrel is stamped 1863. Left side of barrel has the VP eagle proof. Has the standard single leaf folding rear sight, three barrel bands, original sling swivels, finished in the white, with U.S. stamped bands and butt plate. All metal is soft age but clean brown patina. Lock has razor sharp legends. Original nipple. The original walnut stock is excellent with a nice visible cartouche on left side. Fine action. Rifling visible but has black powder abrasion. Comes with an original bayonet.
