5-1/2” barrel in .38 centerfire caliber. Manufactured in 1880s. Offered is a medium frame five shot, double action revolver with folding hammer, square butt, pearl grips, and lanyard ring. This revolver has all matching numbers on barrel, frame, and cylinder. It is an extremely unusual revolver in that the factory engraving is a New York style scroll pattern, rather than the usual punch-dot pattern found on most Merwins. This beautiful engraving encompasses nearly all of the frame and both sides of the barrel. It is also extremely rare to find any Merwin that was finished in silver plate. Revolver retains 95% of the silver plating with most visible wear evidenced as flaking from face of cylinder and slight bubbling. Legends are sharp. Grips are excellent and perfectly fitted with one minor chip evident. Perfect lock-up both single and double action. Strong clean rifled bore. Beautiful high condition factory engraved Merwin & Hulbert and the first of its type we have seen with this combination of scroll engraving and silver plating.
