Barrel length is 32-5/8", serial number is 348618, caliber is .45-70. This is an excellent example of an original 1884 trapdoor rifle. Barrel retains approximately 80% original blue mixing with brown patina. Two barrel bands are brown patina. Has the 1884 rifle sight, left side of barrel has the VP eagle proof. Block is stamped US model 1878. Case colors has darkened, side plate is stamped US Springfield with eagle which has darkened with hammer. Trigger guard is approximately 60% original blue, has swing swivels, has period correct leather sling, original walnut stock is excellent, has a cursive proof P on oval on wrist. Cartouche on left side is stamped SWP 1886 (Sam Porter). Has a US stamped buttplate, stocks are excellent with no cracks, original finish. Barrel band retain fire straw colors. Strong rifle bore with minor black powder abrasion. Even the stock screws retain some original factory blue.
