Gun A: Whitney Phoenix breech loading rifle. Made 1867-1881, chambered for the .44-.40 cartridge, 26” full octagon barrel, sporting sights, barrel stamped “Phoenix. Cal 44 Patent May 26. 74” single shot, swivel breech, serial #1983, strong bore with light black powder abrasions, fine working order. Metal is soft grey patina, sharp legends, excellent metal forend tip, walnut stock with rifle butt. Stock needs attention, pin repair, several cracks, shy to metal and ill-fitting. Gun B: Stevens Number 44, single shot, caliber .32-40 W.C.F., barrel is 25-7/8” part octagon barrel, knife blade front sight, sporting rear sight, sharp legends, 85% original factory blue starting to plum. 20-30 % case colors. Serial #12771. Very good original butt stock, rifle butt plate. Stock has some minor scars on right side. Strong rifling but frosted and minor residue.
