Offered are two fine pre-war Savage centerfire sporting rifles. The first rifle is a pre-war Savage Sporter in .30-06 Springfield with a 24” barrel. This rifle features a ramp and blade front sight, Marbles adjustable rear sight, as well as a factory installed Lyman receiver peep sight. Barrel and frame retain approximately 95% of the original factory blue finish. This is a magazine fed rifle and comes with an original marked magazine that retains approximately 70% blue, turning patina, as does the floor plate and trigger guard. It is equipped with sling eyes and has a steel serrated buttplate. Sports a near mint checkered pistol grip walnut stock with oil finish and sharp checkering. This rifle was manufactured 1920 to 1931. Fine bore and action. The second gun is a Savage Model 1899 solid frame lever action rifle in .30-30 Winchester with a 22” barrel. It was manufactured in 1911 and has the style three barrel stamp (1911-1919). This is considered Model 1899-A short rifle. the .30-30 caliber became available in 1900. Has the straight grip buttstock with smooth steel shotgun butt with so-called perch belly stock, Schnable tip, knife blade front sight, sporting rear sight, and brass cartridge counter. Listed in the catalog as a “saddle gun”. Traces of color on lever. All the metal is clean with original finish, approximately 75% blue mixing with a smooth brown patina. Stocks are near mint, proud to metal, never touched, with the exception of a small chip at toe. Fine bore and action. Nice pair of classic Savage rifles.
