104662 26” barrel in .40-65 WCF. Manufactured 1896. Offered is an extremely high condition all original Model 1886 rifle in the early standard blued finish. It features full octagon barrel, full magazine, Winchester sporting sights, blued finish, walnut stocks, rifle butt, and case colored hammer and lever. The barrel and tube retain approximately 85% of the original factory blue finish, balance blending with a pleasing blue-brown soft untouched patina with sharp edges and perfect legends. The frame retains approximately 90% of its original brilliant high polish blue finish blending perfectly with soft patina. Loading gate retains nearly all of the original high polish fire blue. Bolt retains approximately 90% original blue. Traces of soft case colors on hammer and sides of lever. Original walnut stocks are near mint, proud to metal, untouched, retaining nearly all of the original Winchester finish. Butt plate is a soft grey patina. Action is like new. Strong, clean, shiny bore. Extremely difficult to find high condition antique Model 1886 rifles with the factory blue finish of which the majority still remains. This rifle is exceptional, showing light, well-cared for use. Even the for-end cap retains traces of original blue finish. Fine, early, high condition example. Factory Research details that serial number was applied on July 16, 1895 as: rifle, .40-65, octagon, plain trigger.
