Perhaps one of the rarest toys in Jack’s collection! This early American tin toy from the 1850-1860’s era is in remarkable all original excellent condition. F.F. & F. had a knack of going the extra mile with their toys. Whether the use of vibrant colors or excessive stenciling or elaborate trims or absurdity in construction these toys have such appeal it is easy to understand why collectors pursue them. This example is a side wheeler but no cabin on the deck only an oversized sailor, smoke stacks, walking beam & fancy railings. A spectacular example with a multi colored hull, floral decorated wheel covers, even the original American flag at the stern....understandable why even a non toy collector would find this example to have eye appeal. Although petite in size this is without a doubt one of the greatest American tin boats in existence. Upon inspection it appears that there are no repairs and/or paint touch up to this toy. Overall condition, excluding some shelf dust, is very fine plus. Featured in Antique Toy World Article. October 2008 - Page 53
