An exceptional early vehicle in many aspects! An unusually large tin vehicle with the original tufted red satin seats, head & side lamps, esthetic appeal etc. to mention a few characteristics of this circa 1900 toy. Interestingly very few toy automobiles, especially one of this size, was propelled by means of a fly wheel. At the rear of the vehicle the child would fully insert a toothed rod into the squared opening and then pull back thus powering the auto with a forward momentum. The toy for the most part is in original condition with only replacement lamps and driver/passenger that are antique but not original to the toy. This toy never came with a rear passenger however the driver’s seat has two notches protruding from the tufted fabric indicating that a chauffeur would have been held in place. Finished with deep red sides, gilt trim & black highlighting, the fenders are black w/gilt trim and the solid spoked lead wheels are realistically painted with cream tires and red spokes. A very impressive and rare example with wonderful appeal!
